The Ballad Of The Landlord: Langston Hughes
Langston Hughes' poetry represents the experiences and stories of the lives of African Americans, including the culture and struggles of African Americans. Hughes poems tell special stories of the lives of many different African Americans in different speaker voices. Creating poems as short as one stanza and as long as more than three stanzas. One poem that Langston Hughes reveals the struggles of an African American who wants the help of his landlord in his home is "The Ballad Of The Landlord" . When asking for help the landlord only makes excuses and ignores the complains. In the last stanza and last phrase Hughes writes "Judge gives Negro 90 days in county jail" revealing how controversial society was . Not only that but as well the barrier that was between African Americans and Caucasians. The poem makes the reader visualize how big the need for a reform was needed but as well how African Americans were made to be one stereotype. Hughes tried to share the importance and reality of life for his people. Hughes' poems brought insight of what it was like being an African American in a society where it was a great struggle to live.
