Democracy: Langston Hughes
The poem "Democracy" by Langston Hughes expresses the message of how long people had to deal with racism and through compromise and fear . In stanza 1 the speaker talks directly about how democracy has to come today, it does not tell the reader directly what time period the speaker is talking about but in general. Democracy can be viewed as "ruled by the people" and in this poem Hughes writes about the opposite of it, as injustice and an attitude full of people who are not going to do anything about it. In the line "I tire so of hearing people say, Let things take its course, tomorrow is another day" the speaker talks about how people have become so laid back and just let things go. People do not work together or do something about the issue is but just wait for another day. The overall message in all view is that people are not willing to do anything about their rights but as Langston Hughes wrote in stanza 3 "I do not need my freedom tomorrow when I'm dead. I cannot live on tomorrow's beard" people need to rise up to the disregardance and fight back.
